Vehicular Urban Disguise Techniques
With the ever increasing number of vehicles on our cities’ roads nowadays, it is not uncommon for anybody to have experienced the challenge of finding a parking space. A lot of times, we take the risk of parking where we shouldn’t, only to get our vehicles towed away or worse. Listed below are simple accessories and auto parts that one can add to his vehicle to optimize it for unauthorized parking in loading zones, to deter vandalism, and for industrial photography infiltration.
Push Bumpers
This does not only provide good protection to the front of your vehicle, during parking but also makes your vehicle look like service transportation. Having push bumpers allows one to use his vehicle to push stalled vehicles and also transforms it to a good ramming weapon for medium sized obstructions.
High Density Spotlight with EyeBeam
When legal in your state, a police -style spotlight can be a very useful tool in providing you with necessary light in dark roads or in camping trips. Though this is to be used with discretion, with this contraption, the owner of the vehicle can provide roadside assistance, or can act as a deterrent for shady figures lurking on dark road sides. This light can rotate a good 360 degrees and can be rotated from inside the car. A new technology called the eyebeam couples the spotlight with a motion detecting laser that warns the driver of any movement within the area where the light is aimed at. This is a very useful police device and will surely prove to be a must have for the wary civilian.
LED Hazard Flashers
Most urban service vehicles have hazard flashers built in inside their cars to communicate with tailgaters, and to provide diversion. A better alternative will be directional/warning bars made up of powerful LED3 mini lights. Usually installed inside the car in the windshield, these provide more versatility compared to regular flashers. With a mounting bracket available in most truck shops, these can be stealthily placed inside your car, to be activated immediately if the need arises.
Hazard stripes
Aside from looking great, black and yellow, or black and white stripes give the message of caution to those who gets near your car. It subliminally warns people that there is something in your vehicle (or its owner) that they should keep their distance from. A good option for this is vinyl decals or stickers, but for those who are truly serious about their urban disguise, having them custom painted will look better for your car.
Decals
There are two things that you can put in styling your car that will definitely be very useful. One is the use of vinyl letters and numbers to denote a “fakey” fleet number. Get creative and put in your birthday or you and your wife’s anniversary. Having this will make your car look like it is under a big company. A less subtle way to use decals is to have a custom logo made for a made up corporation. Make it so that it does look authoritative, but is ambiguous enough for anyone to remember.
D-ring Shackle
This little add on is perhaps the most useful of the bunch. Putting this at the rear of your vehicle instantly makes your vehicle a mini tow machine useful for pulling cargo or other cars. This is also a good deterrent for those who want to ram your car from behind, giving a blunt impact point to their fenders, causing sure damage.
Other useful items may include
A FUNERAL sign
This will elicit sympathy from other motorists and parking authorities and could surely get you out of minor problems. Be sure to use this sparingly though, and definitely not around your neighborhood. This is definitely not something for those who see any implication of death as bad luck. Though a plastic laminated one will last, I prefer a card board one that looks like it was just recently made.
Fire extinguisher
You never can tell when accident will strike. Oftentimes the presence of a fire extinguisher could save a car from being a total wreck. Usually fires start out small, but the absence of an adequate fire extinguisher turns a small flame to one that can consume a whole car. this is definitely a wise thing to have.
Emergency supplies
In a clean and rustproof box you may put in the following:
Nylon tow strap
jumper cables
screwdrivers
flashlights and spare batteries
a CB radio
duct tape
whistle
cable ties
leather gloves
medication
wrenches
Having these will give you the security that if anything unexpected goes wrong, you are prepared. For a view of how this looks when applied see Telstar Logistics’ photoset at Flickr. (see sample photo above)
