Homer Simpson’s "List of Things to do Before Dying"

I have seen this list from the Simpsons episode where Homer was about to die after eating a poisonous sushi delicacy made up of Blowfish.  (originally aired January 24, 1991)  He was given 24 hours to live by the doctor, made this list and went about to try to accomplish them.

Homer Simpson is perhaps one of the most enduring cartoon characters of all time.  Maybe it is because, any person can, one way or the other, relate to him.  Attempts to duplicate him and his dysfunctional family, have been attempted lots of times, but still,  I think nothing comes close to him.  (Yup not even Family Guy)  He remains the classic epitome of our imperfections, a symbol of man’s humanity.

I found this list interesting.  Perhaps because it shows how important Homer’s family is to him, or simply because it shows us all what really matters. Lited on a napkin with the words “Dumb Things I Gotta Do Today”, here is Homer’s list.

more from Homer..

During their man-to-man talk Homer said:

” I want to share something with you- the three little sentences that will get you through life.  Number one, ‘cover for me.’ Number two, ‘oh, good idea, boss.’  Number three, ‘it was like that when I got here.”

Lol.  The Simpsons really rocks.

It’s pretty awesome to talk about how a cartoon character portrait the reality of accepting death to every individual.

The one-line wisdom I remember comes from Homer’s dad:-

“I used to be really with it, then they changed whatever it was.”

The Simpsons lost their edge when the writers/creators stopped with the nonsensical idiotic off-to-the-side jokes that has nothing to do with the episode. Bring those back and decrease Homer’s intelligence and the Simpsons will come roaring back to life like a meteor crashing to earth.

Too many changes waters down your original creation.
