The New Napster?

This is perhaps one of the coolest office ideas ever.  Given the choice, I think that I’d prefer this one over having an office microwave or a shredder.

Aesthetically designed to blend seamlessly with any environment, this invention called the Napshell is a simple portable bed specially designed for that much needed power naps.

Easily confused with a car or a kid’s playpen, this supports the idea that a few short naps during the work hours may improve productivity, and improve employee performance and concentration.  The developer of the Napshell claims that this is the answer in counteracting that midday sleepy time for a more efficiency during working hours.  In a study for NASA made by Marc Rosenkind, he found that “reaction time can improve by up to 16% and loss of concentration can be reduced by up to 34%” when employees are given this incentive.

Other models have doors for privacy and even built in stereo.

I for one am certain that, naps are really helpful in the work environment.  Though I see the wide margin for possible abuse, I feel that to induce rest during the low hours of the day will greatly improve performance for the rest of one’s shift.  I guess this has to do with the idea as well that since one is given the time to doze off no excuse is ever present to do so during other hours in one’s work schedule.

Further development may put the Napshell in other settings and possible even outdoors, in parks and tourist spots; a great substitute to sleeping on tents or even on small inns.  This can be placed in a variety of places including conference centers, lounges and wellness centers.
