Leawood, KS -The Car Care Council and the Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair (CCAR®) have entered into a strategic Alliance. The Alliance will focus on increasing the availability and affordability of professional car care by increasing the pool of qualified technicians.
To facilitate the Alliance and to support the Car Care Council's annual National Car Care Month, the Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair has scheduled its third annual Satellite Career Fair for October 27, 1998 from 1:15 p. m. to 2:00 p. m. Eastern time. Recognizing the importance of the Satellite Career Fair, October 27th is being designated "Automotive Career Education Day" by Governors across the country.
The CCAR® Satellite Career Fair is designed to inform, educate and motivate students, school counselors and educators to learn about the career opportunities in the automotive service and collision repair industry. The CCAR® Satellite Career Fair is a high-energy, high-powered, 45-minute live videocast which will be available to 5,000 middle schools, high schools, technical and community colleges via satellite. 150,000 students are expected to be a part of the broadcast. It will be presented in a game show format with automotive education students and working technician graduates appearing on the show.
By informing students about the career opportunities in the automotive service and collision repair industry, the current shortage of over 50,000 technicians can be reduced. A properly educated technician will be able to apply math, physics, chemistry properly. And the technician will have computer, communication and decision making skills in order to deal with the increased technological sophistication of today's vehicles. This will allow faster, affordable and more efficient repairs on consumer vehicles.
In its first two years, the CCAR Satellite Career Fair reached more than 200,000 students, teachers and counselors in over 2,000 high schools and technical colleges across the country. If you are interested in your school participating the CCAR® Satellite Career Fair at no cost, please contact your local guidance counselor, automotive instructor or CCAR®. The Career Fair toll free hot line number is 1-888-686-4445.
