100 Years of Motoring: Car History, Monopoly Style

I just came across this awesome graphic from GoodMagazine which puts all the highlights of Motoring in the country for the past year in a Monopoly like diagram.  Not only does this representation look good, but it also makes something interesting on what could have been a really boring subject.

A few of the details worth noting and mentioning from the diagram are the following:

5 Reasons You Should Hold Off a PC Upgrade

Last year, we gave you our predictions of what will be big in 2008. Though, we have seen a lot of the rumors disproved by a lot of the new gadgets that came out, it is undeniable that some of the theories we covered involving the iPhone and some of the games and gadgets in this article were spot on.

This year, we have done more research, and instead of giving you a report on what rumors around the gadgetsphere, we are going to give you a glimpse of what the big Tech boys are cooking for us, the picky and pickle consumers.  These five technologies will definitely make you think twice before buying a PC in the next few months early this year, which is just perfect with the bleak economy still trying to make a recovery.

Core Wars: Intel’s i7

Core_2

One of this year’s biggest buzz maker is the release of intel’s core i7 CPU’s which was known as Nehalem for many. Unlike upgrades from previous chips from Intel, this is a major upgrade from the chip company which boasts of a performance that is even way beyond what their high end quad cores can do.

It is quite sucky that just a few months after they released their quad core chips, Intel has already made those hardware a little out dated if not soon obsolete.

So how big of an update is the i7? Unlike previous upgrades, Intel’s latest chip does not only pack more cores into their CPU for better computing power. It has actually redesigned its hardware for a speed boost previously thought impossible.

Getting to Know Your Car

28561.strip.sunday

With today’s economy showing no signs of immediate improvement any time soon, there exists an increased need for us to save money in any way we can. One of the things that we can do to accomplish this is to give more attention to maintaining our vehicles. With the auto industry being hit by the global recession and auto sales is still on the decline, more and more people are learning how important it is to get to know ones vehicle.

At Auto Parts Place, we get the unique opportunity to speak with a lot of people who are either looking to do minor repairs on their cars or are into performing some preventive maintenance. Though, a lot of these are indeed commendable in their interest in keeping their cars in top condition, we have seen how a handful still has not taken the opportunity to know their cars well.

This post is to assist the enthusiast and even the normal car owner to get to know ones car better. This will not only be useful when the time comes when you need a repair or a part replaced but also in caring for your vehicle.

Not Again! Spillover Makes Obama a Miserable Failure at Yahoo!

obama_yeswecan_400

I can still remember, how not more than three years ago, an attack to the former president, George Bush was done on the internet.  This made his biographical page on the Whitehouse.gov site appear as the number 1 result for a search for the word “miserable failure”.  This was quickly resolved by Google and was identified as something called a googlebomb.   Though an obvious pun, this was not something of a laughing matter, especially since it is an attack to the person of the former president and his seat.

Now, with President Barack Obama having just assumed office, it looks like the former president gave him far more than economic problems and the troubles of war from his term.

Less than three days since the new president took over, search engines are now showing Barack Obama at the top results for “miserable failure” on Yahoo and for “failure” on Google.  This was explained by internet marketer Danny Sullivan on his blog as a result of “redirects” that were used to correct the problem before.  He actually gave a call to action for the former president’s IT team to clean up that problem before the change in administration (and website) happens.  It looks like that warning was not heeded.

Busby SEO Test: Bad Cred for SEO

A few weeks ago, I got word from a friend about what they call an SEO World Cup, hosted by a company called Busby Web Solutions.  This is not the first time that I have come across this contest and with a little background on internet marketing I decided to check out how this thing goes.

A New Look for the Honda City

After an unofficial fourth generation release in the global market, the Honda City has still not gained the consumer’s love, even after the fact that it is a pioneer in bringing to us revolutionary technologies like i-DSI and CVT automatic transmission. Hailed by many as delivering “just enough” in terms of power, these innovations have not been enough to make car lovers world wide ignore the lack of power, so-so audio systems and the overall unattractiveness possessed by Honda’s rep to the subcompact category. This year Honda is determined to help endear us back to the City with a design and an engine that tells they have been listening to us all those years.

A First Look at Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Movie

SP32-20081126-233700

This week we just had the newest trailer from Warner Brothers on the latest Harry Potter Movie.  We at Auto Parts for Brains are just big fans of the books and are excited to see how the best chapter of the series (with the Goblet of Fire), look like in the big screen.  This chapter in the seven books is really very interesting to see because it is in this chapter that we learn more of Severus Snape (he is the Half-Blood Prince), we see Dumbledore die and of course that we see the most controversial betrayal in Harry Potter-dom.  This book introduces a lot of facts that serve as the foundation of the last installment of the series.  In this book we get to see Voldemort rise to power with his cohorts, an we get to know what horcruxes are.  Most importantly for us, this book make the revelation in the final book about Snape, more meaningful- that he loved Harry’s mom so much that he betrayed Voldemort and swore to protect Harry Potter at all cost.  That fact in the last book really was a big “I have to stop reading to take this in” moment.  Imagine Snape, protecting Harry in all those year in Hogwarts.

The 2009 Nissan Cube, A First Look

SP32-20081114-054122

With the LA Auto Show just around the corner, car enthusiasts from all over the US are getting excited.  Aside from the excitement for the event, this is mostly because this year, a few cars for the coming year will be unveiled.

One of the sure scene stealers in next week’s show will be the Nissan show area where they will reveal for the first time in the US, the “evolutionary” redesign of the Z.  Called 370 Z, fans everywhere are waiting to see the car in person and maybe have the chance to tinker in the driver’s seat or to take a peak at what’s under its hood.  The design of the Z is not something of a secret with a computer generated version playable on the game Need for Speed Underground and with a lot of leaked photos online.  Promised to have considerably more performance and a visual stimulus beyond today’s Z, this car is something a lot of drivers are waiting for.

Wearing Your Car: Designer Clothes from Auto Parts

I am not really crazy about clothes or fashion as I am with gadgets and cars.  Still, I think I have a sense of style, though that is highly subjective.  Someone told me once that the gadgets men have and the cars we drive are equivalent to the clothes and jewelry that women wear.  Honestly, we would rather drive a Shelby Cobra in our shorts and worn out shirts over cruising with an Armani in a compact Kia or Toyota.  To us, cars and not clothes make a man.

A few weeks ago, I came accidentally to an awesome concept of recycling auto parts for various purposes.  I found amusement as I browsed ashtrays, paper weights and wall clocks made from used auto parts.  I think it is really an awesome idea to recycle these to products to other useful items after they have been used.  Nothing can describe my surprise , however, when I ran over two episodes of the franchise Project Runway during my research.  It looks like this season, sponsors Fiat and Saturn, for the Australian and American editions respectively, wanted to push the designer’s boundaries by having them make couture creations from auto parts.  Talk about fusion.  The contestants of the show were made to literally make the Saturn or Fiat wearable.
