Trippy: Comments That Make Me Smile
Comments are a blog’s lifeblood. One’s blog success is richly measured not only by the number of hits a site gets but by the active discussion that it generates.
Every now and then, a comment stands out from the rest. Here are a few of the comments, published and still unpublished that I feel are worth a post of their own:
Acuity
Let me see when darkness prevails
When the lids close down tight over my eyes
Eclipsing sight from me
Let me see the world with tailored vision
Allow me to step with the eyes my mind does use
To step around and among this fractured world
They say a stream will finds it own course
Like the allure of a prize un-touched
But when nature comes crashing down
And you sweat and shriek from fear unknown
You’ll use the eyes that have harmed you so often
Let me not be molded, stretched and conformed
Fitted for a conception of one way or the other
Do not forsake me and lay your hand to me
And lend not hand to what is filthy
You do not need eyes to see
Do not need sight to tell you the truth
Point the way or suggest pleasant remedies
You do not need the faceless and crooked
The vile and misconstrued
You do not need eyes to see
Yet, need a tongue to speak

I am a sucker for poems, and this post from Trippy Ocean of “The Energy Complex” really made my day when I received it.

When I write an article I usually try my best to put myself in the shoes of people who would be reading my posts. It still surprises me though to get comments from people who relate one way or the other to some of the topics I write about.
One of the comments that had such an effect on me was from my post entitled Think! After a while, there was a little heated discussion on wether speed limits are ridiculous or not and who is there to blame for accidents involving kids.
Some of my commentators were saying that kids who get hit should not be at the middle of the street regardless of what the speed limit is.
I can say that after this comment by Netscape’s Anvilhead, the heated discussion died a little.
“The point people is that the higher your speed the greater the likelihood[sic] that a child struck by you has a greater likelihood[sic] of untimely[sic] death. Slow down where children are likely to be.
The street in front of my house has a speed limit of 35, my daughter when crossing the street looked left and saw no one, looked right and stepped into the street. She was struck by an 85 year old man doing in excess of 45mph. They drive so fast on my residential street that in the time it takes to turn your head a car can appear and take your child’s[sic} life.
Slow down.”

The best comments are sometimes the short ones. I really appreciate these but sometimes, when that’s all they say and you get a lot of spammy ads, that’s just downright annoying.
Still, not counting the countless calls for pills for this and that, I can count up to 15 “Cool site” comments a day.
Wow, I wish these spammers get bored sometimes and do read what’s written on my blog.

Lastly, and I can say the best comment I have received was from Melbourne- based Author and photographer, David Mc Mahon of authorblog. It’s not just because I won his Weekly Web Awards, that I am saying this but even prior to that, when I had not any idea I can be listed there, he gave the following comments:
“All-round, it’s pleasingly understated, with an interesting mix of subtle design elements, perfect-sized feed-ins to longer posts, and a pleasing mix of subjects. I loved the Vanilla ice cream post. It is more than the sum of its parts, and each wedge in the whole site fits neatly and harmoniously with the others. You have a really nice touch with writing and presentation and you don’t try and blend too many gimmicks together. Understated is the new black – and you have got it right. So right. If there is anything specific you need to know, just contact me on my blog. And drop by again to leave your link on my blog, to nominate your site for Aussiejourno’s Weekly Blog Awards. Have saved your blog to my Favourites, and I will be back regularly when I’ve finished this novel. If I have one piece of advice to you it would be – don’t be afraid of an occasional splash of colour. No need to be garish, just a few subtle touches will liven up the overall look, but we’re talking subtle tweaks here, not major changes.
Good luck. Keep blogging.
David aka aussiejourno”
I am grateful that there are people out there who would go out of their way to post helpful and honest comments for newbie bloggers.
These make me think that the best compliment I can receive in the future could probably be, “Thanks for having time to comment and to give feedback on my blog. Your feedback about… are really helpful.”
And after that I would surely reply, “It’s because I’ve been there, I know how it feels…”
