10 Best Car Commercials of All Time
After seeing the Mazda Zoom Zoom Commercial the nth time, I decided that I should take action. I just had to do something to take the image of that kid off of my mind as well as the incessant “zoom zoom zoom†that is going on and off my ears. I understand that commercials are made to make a lasting impression on us the consumers, but those should be positive feelings. I remember a time when I got fed up with car commercials that depend on stunts I will never be doing or be in. Honestly, the only time I did a drift; it was followed by a big “kla-Bangâ€.
So, now without ado, here are the top ten commercials I like. In reality there are hundreds of others I’ve admired, but these are the ones that made me actually look forward to commercial breaks. Some of them were just endorsed and passed to me by friends.
10 Audi devours the competition
Audi knows what competition means and this time, they made a really scary ad where they are a spider with its prey. We tried to make out what the cars in the spun webs were, but to no avail. Audi is truly one fierce brand always lashing out on the competition. Another short with an attitude.
9 Nissan Transforms
This is an evidence that I am a Transformers fan. I like this ad because it has some of the cars I like in it. This might not be as good as the Citroen ad in the transforming part but I like it because it shows the cars battling out different surfaces. Shows versatility and power in an entertaining way.
8 Dodge Gives Macho a New Meaning
This ad of the Durango is all about the car. What I like about this is that it uses dialogue so effectively without overdoing the humor. The way the car was shown all over the commercial did not hurt one bit, because like the guy in the cubicle, the watcher will be drawn to listen.
7 Banned VW Ad of an Anti- Terrorist Car
This commercial never got the chance to be aired in public. Still, this one from Volkswagen just made the idea of strength and dependability of the Polo stick to me. I’m not alone when I say that we love our cars a lot and that in reality, once we are in it, we surrender our safety and our lives to these contraptions.
6 Toyota Rav 4 does a Mr. and Mrs. Smith
I’m not the one who enjoys, seeing people getting hurt, but this one is downright hilarious. The shot of the RAV 4 just waiting there outside for the victor is creepy. Nice song in the background too.
5 What a Honda Feels Like
I tried listening to this ad before actually watching it. This is just amazing. I remember the times when I make up my own car sound when I was playing cars when I was young. This is like it, only a hundred times better. A pleasure to watch and to listen to.
4 The New Citroen C4
I guess I really am a big Transformers fan, but hey, is there an eighties guy who isn’t. The tagline alive with technology is funny after the dance number. Citroen came up with another version of this as well as Nissan. Brings up my dreams of being in a robot when I was a kid.
The Citroen bot got an upgrade.
3 Toyota Vios’ Monster Ad
I have seen an ad from Toyota with the Lochness monster in it, but I like this commercial of the VIOS better. The idea of the car being a lure is funny and effective. I never tire seeing this ad over and over again.
2 Honda Auto Parts and the Accord
This commercial for the Accord shows how ingenious the guys at Honda are. The tagline “isn’t it nice if things just work” is just so simple yet piercing. I love this commercial because of the creativity and the simplicity with which the idea was presented. The way the auto parts were used was a strong statement at how these cars are all about the details.
and the best of the lot goes to…
1 Audi Praises its Competition
An ad that praises the competition is crazy I know; but that was what Audi did, and they really made an impression. This is a very short commercial. What I like about this is that it is all about the car. The use of their logo is also great.
