10 Reasons to Not Watch the Leaked Wolverine DVD

posted in Car Parts: Opinions |

I have just seen the leaked Wolverine DVD and I am afraid I have made a mistake of seeing the unfinished product and spoiling some of the surprises the plot has to offer.  I still did enjoy the movie and think that the final release on theaters on May 1 is worth seeing.  Here are ten reasons why you should NOT search for the leaked movie anymore and why you should wait and watch the official release when it comes out on May.

1.     It is yet unfinished.
Marvel movies are effects movies and they won’t be complete nor would be as awesome without the eye popping computer generated effects in them.  The leaked movie still lacks a lot of the major effects and even shows unrendered 3D in gray on many of the scenes.  There are also parts of the movie where one will see the use of green screen and suspension wires.

NOTE:  Following are major spoilers to the plot.  If you don’t want to learn about the plot of the movie yet, please don’t read on.  If you think you are wise enough to predict how cliché Hollywood is, then go ahead.  You might just be right on your hunches.

2.    Sabertooth is Logan’s brother and Logan’s real name is James or Jimmy.
I have read a few of the X-men comics when I was a kid and I am at least happy that the script writers tried to be true to the fact that Logan (born James Howlett) was a sickly child.  Still I think the Wolverine script writers are trying to do a Batman, when they killed Logan’s dad in front of him.  Though it was not confirmed whether Logan’s half brother Dog (born to his real father Thomas Logan) was really the future Sabertooth, the film already sealed this as a fact.  I also will be haunted by the thought of Logan having the sissy name Jimmy forever.  Death in the family is also very cliché.  I really wished they got more creative in putting together wolverine’s past.

3.    Silverfox is Wolverine’s girlfriend. No sign of Mariko Yashida. 200px-Silver_Fox_04

Wolverine is also a love story with the plot exploring the relationship between Logan and SilverFox, and with Silverfox’s death as the motivating factor for Logan to get into the weapon X program.  As far as I remember, Silverfox was Native American.

4.    Logan’s girlfriend is killed by Sabertooth
This is a little annoying because it is a bit predictable.  I cannot count with my fingers the number of movies which have used revenge for murder of a wife or a girlfriend or a daughter as a driving force in its plot.  I dunno, but I was hoping they used a little more creativity.

5.    Sabertooth was actually working for striker
I knew this is so, 15 minutes into the movie.  I know for a surety that somehow everything will lead to this.  It is pretty obvious and again, I think the writers of the Origin’s story ran out of ideas on this one.

6.    Logan’s girlfriend is actually alive and only faked her death with Striker to save her sister
Though this was one of the surprises in the movie, I felt that this part of the plot was rushed.  The surprise was done without a buildup which could have been more effective.  Also, I don’t think the writers were able to make the relationship between Wolverine and his fiancé something that the audience will identify with.  Again, this part of the plot borders on almost being cliché.  It is quite stereotypical for surprises like this to come with the intention to save a family member who is kidnapped as a reason.

7.    Ryan Reynold aka Deadpool is Weapon 11
It’s bad enough that they got Ryan Reynolds to play Deadpool (he is a really great actor, only not for this role, methinks), but to make him be the ultimate villain in the end is just not very effective as a climax.  Its like they put him out of the picture for most of the movie which I think many Deadpool fans will hate and then quickly thought of a way to put him back in the story at the end.  I wish the writers of the movie focused on the complex relationship between Wolverine and Sabertooth more as arch enemies than put Deadpool in the centerstage suddenly at the end.  I don’t think it is realistic too for Wolverine and Sabertooth to fight together in the end and for Logan to talk with Victor Creed like nothing happened.

8.    Ryan Reynold dies by decapitation
For all Deadpool fans out there, they made sure there will no more be a Deadpool movies in the future.  Not only did they mess up with the character (he grew samurai long blades on his arms) but also killed him by decapitation.  They gave him a mix of the powers of several mutants and then was killed by Wolverine and Sabertooth in the end in a cool fight sequence on top of a nuclear exhaust.

9.    Wolverine dies (twice)
Wolverine is killed by Adamantium bullets.  Anybody thinking of Kryptonite?  I mean come on, this is a bit too superman for me.  Also, I don’t think adamantium made bullets will automatically pierce adamantium.  Its like saying bullets since they are steel made can go through steel.  In the end, while Wolverine is carrying her girl which is dying after being shot while escaping, he was shot by Striker in the body and the head, twice.

10.    Wolverine lives

With his healing powers, Logan lives but without any recollection of who he is and why he is where he is at.  Striker saw to it that Wolverine does not remember him even if he heals and lives.  Wolverine forgets everything, and every possible clue to his past except Sabertooth is erased.  Cyclops (Scott Summers) who is in the movie never really saw Wolverine because he was blindfolded the whole time he was rescued.  I would honestly still prefer that his memory were erased during the Weapon X program. All in all they made a good enough effort of making this origins move cohesive with the X-men movies of the past.

Good Stuff to see on May:

gambit

Gambit.  It is sucky they had to wait for an Origins story before they thought of showing Gambit in the big screen.
Professor X.  At the end, the students were shown being invited and rescued by Professor X, which obviously led to the X-men.

All in all, I enjoyed the leaked DVD, but I still wished I have waited before I saw the whole thing.  I have read somewhere that there will still be major changes to this version to the final one aside from the enhanced computer generated effects.  With just a few weeks onto the premiere of the movie, I do hope people will have the patience to wait so they can enjoy the movie more.

WTF, Isnt lady death strike her girlfriend from the past (which he killed in the previous xmen movie). Logan, doesnt even have his real identity even in the comics (no real name). And sabretooth as his brother? I dont think so, they are both project x project but didnt have any connection whatsoever in bloodlines (theyre arch rivals since the start of wolverine and xmen series).

Actually, it is only in the animated series where you find some sort of relationship between LadyDeathStrike and Logan. They sort of crossed her with Mariko Yashida in the cartoons. I have also only seen Lady Deathstrike show some sort of compassion for Logan once. It is in an issue of Wolverine where she found out that Logan has already lost the adamantium and is bleeding.

As for Sabertooth, people are saying he has a close semblance to Logan’s step brother by the name of “Dog”. No connection was made between the two however. And that is going to be a challenge because Sabertooth having his memory erased too is a possibility.
